Pavagadh, with its rich history and stunning landscapes, is a must-visit for anyone seeking both spiritual and adventurous experiences. Here’s a detailed account of my journey, making it easier for you to plan yours!

The Start of the Journey

Our journey began at Pavagadh Bus Station. From there, we took a bus to Machi, and the ticket was just ₹10 per person. Once we reached Machi, we grabbed a quick bite – a plate of delicious poha to fuel us for the trek ahead.

The Trek Begins

We started our walk from Machi to Pavagadh, which is about 5 kilometers in total. As we began, the real challenge hit us after climbing around 200 steps. But we kept pushing forward, taking short breaks to rest. The cool breeze and occasional lemon water and snacks like khichu kept us going.

Nature and Scenic Views

The route offered mesmerizing views. The blend of mist and clouds over the hills made the surroundings even more magical. Along the way, we encountered donkeys, a common sight on this path, and passed by Dudhiya Talav, a serene lake that adds to the scenic beauty of the trail.

Reaching Kalika Mata Temple

After what felt like a fulfilling yet challenging trek, we reached the Kalika Mata Temple at the summit of Pavagadh hill, 800 meters above sea level. The temple, dating back to the 10th-11th centuries, is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus.

The temple’s architecture is fascinating, with large fortifications and an open courtyard in front. Inside the sanctum, the idol of Kalika Mata is represented by a head (mukhwato), painted red. There are also full idols of Mahakali and Bahuchara’s yantras.

Tips for Pilgrims

  • If you’re not up for the entire walk, there’s a cable car option from the midway point to take you up to the summit. you can also book cable car tickets advanced to avoid to stand in queue : https://udankhatola.com/destination/kali-devi
